The Scythe ft: Denzel Curry, 1900Rugrat & Key Nyata – MUTT THAT BIH
The Scythe is Denzel Curry’s collective: Bktherula, TiaCorine, FERG (formerly A$AP Ferg) and Key Nyata alongside Curry. We covered their lead single “LIT EFFECT” back in W04 and the title track “THE SCYTHE” in W08. “MUTT THAT BIH” was the final single ahead of the full project, now out on Loma Vista Recordings, featuring Key Nyata and West Palm Beach rapper 1900Rugrat, produced by Swaggyono, SkipOnDaBeat and iloveit!. Curry describes the setup plainly: “The Scythe is a family and a group. We still have our respective solo careers, but when we come together, it’s The Scythe.”
Three verses, no filler. Curry opens with sharp energy, 1900Rugrat slides between melodic rap-singing and loose flexes, and Key Nyata takes the third with a beat switch and some dryly observed lines โ “I heard their morals been takin’ Ozempic / Money get tight, it turn niggas to bitches” is a good one. Southern-style bass-heavy production, a mid-track cinematic jolt that snaps back into the main groove. The collective’s frame of reference is Memphis, Houston and Miami โ old-school regional Southern rap brought forward โ and this single makes the case that the combination works. The video, directed by Ramon Castellanos, runs in black and white and features dogs, which is on brand. Strictly 4 The Scythe will be covered in full in the March Album Spotlight.
